İkdam is one of the newspapers that extensively covered the National Struggle. Besides being rich in Anatolian news, it conveys the writtings of the opposition press and the opinions published in European newspapers to its readers along with its own comments. İkdam sent young writer Ahmet Hidayet [Reel] as a correspondent to Ankara. Ahmet Hidayet’s impressions, written under the title “Anatolian Letters” between the end of 1921 and 1922, were published in İkdam. These lesser-known writings reflect the Ankara of that period, along with its concerns and excitements. Furthermore, Ahmet Hidayet’s writings also reveal that the Ankara in those days was preparing to become the capital of the newly emerging state.
